Standing Water Wood Rot Mold
Q. I need to know if standing sub
water under a house can cause wood rot/mold? The water is sometimes a foot deep and other times not as much. But it is there 5-6 months
out of the year. [June 11, 2003]
A. Standing water under a house or anywhere inside a house is causing to enable
mold to grow in epidemic amounts! The water beneath the house will soak into any wood it
touches causing both wood rot and mold growth. Even worse is that the standing water will be
constantly evaporating causing high humidity [above 60%] which will enable mold to grow on all
of the support timbers, on and into the wood sub flooring above, and into the floors and walls
above the water. You can hire a
Certified Mold Inspector to do a thorough inspection and
investigation of the area beneath the house, inside the floor above, inside walls above, mold
air tests of all rooms above [to discover whether or not there are elevated levels of
unhealthy airborne mold spores], and mold air tests of the air flow coming out of heating/air
