Q.
Hi, I am a union carpenter recently sheet rocked
a hotel much of the sheet rock has gotten wet mold has been accumulating it
is black sum spots red it has been for the past six months i am allergic to
penicillin i am expected to work in the section of building were there is
moldy damaged sheet rock being removed, what say you?
A.
Being allergic to the drug penicillin [like I am also] is not the same
concern as working in a building infested with penicillium mold species
[the third most dangerous mold indoors]. Your doing construction with
moldy building materials can make you very sick, sometimes even
permanently. You need to have your union persuade the company to remove
and stop using all existing stockpiles of moldy drywall, and to remove and
discard the moldy drywall already installed. That hotel is going to be
lost to mold growth over running it by the installation of the moldy sheet
rock. Your union can enlist the help of the building owner, contractor,
and architect to work on this very serious sick building problem. The
entire hotel as it stands now in construction needs to be completely
inspected and mold tested by a
Certified Mold Inspector.
