What are the mold signs and mold clues of mold problems,
mold
contamination and mold infestation?
Find out if you have a
mold problem by looking for a mold clue or a mold sign.
A home or building may have a mold contamination or
mold infestation problem if one or more of the following mold signs or
mold clues is present---
-
One or more occupants is suffering from
unexplained health problems such as an ongoing bloody nose,
sinus problems, headaches, nose congestion, runny nose, skin
rashes, skin sores, coughing, breathing difficulties, difficulty
in remembering things and in thinking clearly, feeling
disconnected from the world around you, chronic fatigue, and the
many other mold symptoms explained in
mold and health on in
mold health symptoms. Please
note that some occupants may
have mold health symptoms, while others may have none, with all
living or working in the same mold-infested area. People differ
significantly in their sensitivity to mold.
-
One or more occupants smell mold inside
the home, office, or other building. People differ
significantly in their ability to smell mold. Even the smell of
mold can make some people quite sick. If you can smell mold,
there is a mold problem somewhere in the home or building!
-
You see mold growth anywhere inside the
home or building, whether in or on the building or its contents.
-
Home or building
organic or cellulose construction materials [wood drywall, etc.]
have been wet for more than 24 hours from a flood, roof leak,
water pipe leak or break.
-
During some or all of the year, the
relative humidity inside the home or building exceeds 50 to 60%, thus
providing enough moisture from the air to facilitate mold
growth. Keep a home or building at a mold discouraging 30 to 40%
with a programmable dehumidifier.
-
The home or building is located close to
heavy plant or tree growth [a big source of airborne mold spores
because of mold growth on decaying leaves and other plant parts]
that facilitates the entry of airborne mold spores into the
building through air movement through windows and doors, or
close to a river, pond, lake, ocean, or other body of water, a
physical location conducive to high humidity and mold growth.
-
Do it yourself mold
test kits discover elevated levels of airborne mold spores in the air of
the various rooms of the home or building, or its attic, basement, or
crawl space, and/or in the air flow out of heating or air conditioning
duct registers. Or hire a
Certified Mold Inspector
to thoroughly inspect and mold test your home, apartment, condominium,
office, store or other building.
