Mold Problem
Company Mold Problem and

Q.
THIS COMPANY THAT
I'VE BEEN WORKING FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS HAS HAD DEVELOPED A MOLD
PROBLEM. A FEW OF MY CO-WORKERS HAVE BEEN FEELING DIZZY, WEAK, FLU
SYMPTOMS. WE WENT TO MANAGEMENT AND THEY HAD A MOLD INSPECTOR COME
OUT" HE STATED THAT WE DID HAVE MOLD" BUT IT WASN'T ENOUGH
TO HURT US. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE OR SAID SINCE THEN, BUT WE ARE ALL
WORRIED BECAUSE WE ARE STILL SICK. WHEN WE LEAVE THE BUILDING WE FEEL
BETTER. WHAT IS YOUR SUGGESTION TO FULFILL THIS MATTER PLEASE HELP US.

A.
Failure to remove a mold problem that is known to an employer's management
and/or owner is a work place safety violation for which the employer can
be heavily fined by the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Health Administration
[OHSA]. You should consider filing a complaint with your closest OHSA
office. If your employer fires you for reporting a work place safety
violation such as mold infestation to OHSA, that would be a separate OHSA violation, and would
entitle you to a potential large sum if you were to sue your employer for
wrongful firing and for making you work in a mold-infested work
place.
Q.
Our house smells moldy,
musty smell, lately its been very wet here in this area and I feel crappy
sore throat and sluggish, I don't have any major health problems don't take
meds don't smoke, I can smell a mouldy smell all the time, our toilet broke
about 6 months ago and filled the basement, so we pumped it out and left the
electric heaters on all night and dried the carpet out! but even before this
miss hap it was still a mouldy smelling house new carpets up stairs but it
is a older home probably built in the 70s early 80s. There has been pets in
here even before us and it just smells moldy! not fresh at all! open windows
don't even make a difference, it gets very cold here in winter months so
windows are seldom open for months, could you give me a hint? My wife is
always blowing her nose and even uses a puffer occasionally. Could you give
us a clue to what might be taking place.

Your health problems are likely
mold-related. Read the most common mold health symptoms. The basement flooding problem and the strong smell
of mold mean that your home is mold infested, especially in view of your
family's health problems. Your first step should be to mold test the air of
the basement, each room upstairs, the attic, and the outward air flow from
each heating/cooling duct register. Read
mold inspection and
mold testing do it yourself instructions. Learn how to use do it
yourself mold test kits available from a large hardware, home improvement,
or safety store.
