Q. Jan. 12, 2012. What
is your opinion on what to do with my mold house in Pennsylvania. Attached
are seven pictures of the mold. Thanks

2012 picture of advanced mold growth in a Pennsylvania house.
A.
Your pictures are very
shocking in the amount of water damage and mold growth shown in the
pictures. Are you or anyone else currently living in this house? Such
advanced mold growth would cause severe health problems for residents. To
get quick and effective control of the massive mold infestation problem,
please take these big steps. Your first step should be to run an ozone
generator for at least one hour in each and every room, the attic, basement,
crawl space of the house, and heating/cooling equipment and ducts. You can
buy a powerful but affordable ozone blaster athttp://www.envirodetectives.com/ozone_blasting.htm.
Your next step should be to use a fogging machine to fog boric acid powder
in warm water in all of the above areas. You can buy boric acid powder at http://www.moldmart.net.
The best fogging machine for a reasonable price is the hurricane model
available at http://www.dynafog.com.
Your next steps is to physically remove all mold growth using the 25 safety
procedures and techniques explained at http://www.moldinspector.com/mold_removal.htm.

Q. Jan. 11, 2011.
I don’t see any mold in my
Chandler, Arizona, home but my child's health is deteriorating and some
testing found levels of fungus and mold in his system. The only water leak I
know about was a faucet in kitchen, but that leak was fixed and caused no
damage.
A.
Because of your child's serious mold health problems, you should read
carefully three of my in depth mold advice ebooks: (1) Mold Health
Guide; (2) Mold Monsters; and (3) Do It Best
Yourself Mold Inspection, Testing, Remediation and Prevention, only
$15 for email delivery to you, or buy all 5 of my books (Mold Library) for
only $49. Buy online at http://www.moldmart.net.
There are several important steps you can take right now to help find
hidden mold problems. If your house has a mold problem, there is going to
be serious mold growth hidden inside your heating, ventilating, and air
conditioning (HVAC) equipment and ducts. You can buy do it yourself
mold test kits online. After you prepare the kits for use, open up a
test kit and tape it with the open, sticky side facing outward air current
to a HVAC grill register. Do that for each of your HVAC duct registers at
the same time. Then run your HVAC system on air con mode for 15 minutes to
drive air from your air con equipment and ducts onto the sticky surface of
the mold test kits. Then, remove and re-install and tape tightly the lids
to the mold test kits. Then leave the mold test kits in a non-sunny area for
7 days to watch for any mold growth in each of the mold test kits. If,
after 7 days, there are many (more than 2 or 3) mold colonies growing or
different types of mold colonies visually, you have a serious problem of
mold infestation inside the HVAC. HVAC equipment and ducts are often mold
factories continually growing mold colonies that throw mold spores into the
air flow coming out of your HVAC ducts, thus making your family members sick
from excessive mold exposure. If the mold test kits show little or no mold
growth, that would be really good news. A second step you should take is to
use a moisture meter (from large hardware or Home Depot type of store) to
check the wetness of all floors in your house. In Arizona, most homes are
built on concrete slabs with no, inadequate, or degraded moisture barriers
to keep moisture from wicking upward from the ground into your concrete
floor and then into the insides of walls, carpeting, padding, and wood
furniture legs that are resting directly on the concrete floor. If your home
is carpeted, pull make a small carpeting and padding corner section of a
carpeted room of each carpeted room to check the moisture level of the floor
in each room or area. If the floor is wet (very common in Arizona), you will
likely have hidden mold growth inside walls and on the bottoms of carpeting
and padding (which you should also be inspecting for mold growth). Third,
you should consider signing up for my 60 days of unlimited email mold advice

Q.
I live in a valley, about 200 yards from a large creek. My house is 2 years
old. The builder took out only a few trees. There are a mix about 50/50 of
pines and hardwoods in my front yard (North). We have lots of ferns that
grow on the West side of the house. I have lots of mildew and mold - on the
house, porch, trees and black stuff on my dogwood trees.
My question is - do you think it would help if we raked the front yard down
a few inches to clear the years and years of old leaves that have broken
down?
A.
Getting rid of decaying vegetation such as accumulated leaves and
pine needles is a smart move on your part to reduce
airborne mold spores in the
area of your home---spores that will travel in air current movements to
enter your home's open windows and doors and fresh air intake of your
heating/cooling system. You should also consider cutting back or down any
trees or big landscaping that block sunlight from hitting your home. The
ultraviolet light rays in sunlight are natural mold killers. Living in a
wooded environment means that your home is going to be bombarded on a
regular basis by elevated levels of airborne mold spores, with resulting
mold contamination of your home. Consider installing what is called a
"mass media", very thick hepa filter in the return portion of your
heating/cooling ducts to continually remove airborne mold spores from the
breathing air of your home. You also would be wise to
mold
test your entire home to determine how severely it might already be
mold-infested. Follow the
mold inspection and
testing tips.
You can buy do it yourself
mold test kits
online.
