Hospital Mold
Contamination

Hospital air conditioner filter full of mold growth
which has been lab identified as Aspergillus and
Penicillium. A Heating/cooling system infested with mold
continually mold cross-contaminates the areas served by
the system. Read the question and answer below
about this problem.
Q.
I would like to stay anonymous for now but I have a
question. I know of a hospital that has confirmed mold
in the A/C system that supplies the OB ward, the
C-Section operating rooms as well as the new born
nursery. Management does not want to do anything about
it and they sure do not want to go public. What are your
opinions on the hazards? The mold is confirmed to be
Penicillium, Aspergillus and others with CFU's in the
hundreds of thousands. Attached is just one of many
pictures [shown above on this webpage]. [August 10, 2004]
A. The identified
mold species [Aspergillus and Penicillium] are, respectively, the second and
third most dangerous molds for adversely affecting human health. The mold
counts are obviously extremely health threatening. As a former hospital
administrator and as a former employee of the U.S. Public Health Service, I
find it very offensive that the professional management of a hospital would
rather cause severe and life-threatening mold health damage to their
vulnerable hospital patients [with open wounds, suppressed immune systems,
etc.] than to correct the problem. Their failure to immediately do
professional mold inspection, testing, and remediation in a safe and
effective manner is both a moral wrong doing and a criminal act of
negligence of the highest severity. To protect your confidentiality, you
might anonymously mail your mold photographs of the hospital air
conditioning filters, along with an explanatory note as to what the photo's
are of, to the: (1) Chief of the Hospital's Medical Staff [who would be a
medical doctor]; (2) Director of Nursing; (3) Hospital Administrator [even
if he or she is covering up this environmental danger], (4) the director of
the local city or county health department; (5) the director of the state
health department; (6) the state licensing board for hospitals in your
state; (7) the director of the American Hospital Association; and (8) your
state's Occupational Safety and Health Administration [because workplace
mold is a employer safety violation]. In the unlikely event that none of
those parties take the problem seriously, send your photo's to your local
newspaper editor and local TV news directors. Learn about health
problems which the hospital mold can cause to patients, staff members, and
visitors at Mold Health Symptoms.
