Home Building Inspectors and
Mold Stains
Q.
As a city building inspector,
I often inspect homes under construction which have black or blue mold
stains in the construction timbers and roof trusses. Is this going to be a
problem for the homeowner? [Feb. 28, 2004]
A.
Yes. If the home experiences high humidity [60% or above],
or suffers a future roof leak, siding leak, plumbing leak, or basement or
foundation leak, the already existing mold growth in the timbers will
continue growing, and end up causing potential health harm to a home's
residents. How to protect new homes under construction from mold infestation
is explained at
New Home Mold. Mold
remediation techniques are explained at
Mold Remediation.
