NEW YORK - A
judge has ordered Bianca Jagger, former wife of Rolling Stone Mick
Jagger, to pay a $500 fine for failing to pay rent on a Park Avenue
apartment that she says is infested with toxic mold and unlivable and
has made her sick.
State
Supreme Court Justice Leland DeGrasse imposed the fine after citing
Jagger for contempt of court. He said she was “willfully disobeying the
explicit directives of two prior court orders requiring Jagger to pay
rent” while her case was pending.
Jagger has
sued her landlord, Katz Park Ave. Corp., for $20 million, saying water
leaks and toxic mold made her 18th floor apartment uninhabitable. She
has failed to pay the monthly rent of $4614.29 since February, the judge
found.
DeGrasse
ordered Jagger to continue to pay the rent to the court on the first day
of each month until her case is resolved. The judge said that if she
fails to pay rent, then Katz may serve a notice of default, and five
days after that notice is filed, Katz may apply to have her evicted.
Jagger’s
lawyer, Ryan S. Goldstein, was out of his office Wednesday and not
immediately available for comment.
